Welcome to our first blog! I am so excited to get to share more of our love for travel and building relationships stronger through prioritizing what matters to you as a couple when you travel!

Since prioritizing you, the traveler, is our top priority it seemed only fitting to start off this blog with the 2 P’s of Travel Planning… and guess what? Both of them are all about keeping what matters to you as the #1 goal when planning your vacations.

So, let’s get started!

1. Personalize

This one has been so overstated in marketing for travel it almost borders on cliché. However, I believe that the true purpose behind that word has been somewhat lost in the global travel market.

Here’s what I mean…
Companies implore you to use their product for travel, whether that’s an airline, destination, or cruise line, and insist that it’s what’s right for you. Makes sense, they want you to come there. But a generic statement that “there’s something for everyone” or “make your vacations dreams a reality” to every single person who sees their campaign kind of defeats the meaning of the word “Personalize”.

When planning a vacation, you must always start with what your goal is as a couple…PERSONALLY (see what I did there?)

Are you going on a second honeymoon, need to get away to relax and recharge, headed off on a bucket list adventure?

Then take that same process and repeat it through every step of your planning: What type of destination will meet that goal? Will an all-inclusive or a la carte style trip suit our needs? We love XYZ hobbies how can we incorporate that into our trip to make it even more US?

Because each couple is unique made up of completely unique individuals, that means every single trip isn’t going to be for every single couple.

Take the time in your planning to always honor what matters to you as a couple and your goal for your vacation!

Like I always say “Never go on someone else’s vacation”

But the other side of prioritizing what matters to you when you travel is learning how to…

2. Pivot

One definition of this word is “completely change the way in which one does something.”

The way in which to apply this is DURING your travels.

Here’s a personal example from my most recent trip.
My husband and I were walking around Disney Springs desperate for something sweet. I’d heard for years about Gideon’s Bakehouse and I was determined one of those cookies was going to end up in my mouth! But as fate would have it the line was long…and I mean LONG…when we got there.

Quickly feeling my dreams of deliciousness fading from view I had a choice to make.

Either ask my husband to stand outside for over an hour in 85-degree Florida sunshine, after which we would both be tired (probably grumpy) and have lost all enthusiasm for that cookie,

or

PIVOT and do in that moment what matters to us as a couple…which is NOT being exhausted waiting in a huge line for a cookie (and hey, if those cookies mean that much to you where you are more than willing to wait DO IT! Honor what matters to you)

So, pivot we did, right around the corner to Mckenna’s Bakery NYC where we walked into glorious air-conditioning and waited a short sweet 5 minutes for a delicious Coffee Crumb Cake (that I would put up against any coffee cake anywhere!)

What mattered to us in that moment was enjoying our day walking, talking, and relaxing together, not checking off a bucket list cookie (someday when I do try one, you’ll be sure to hear about it here!). And we didn’t regret that pivot at all.

When the unexpected happens on your trips, and you have a choice to push through or give up, give yourself the freedom of that 3rd choice of a pivot, then do what will prioritize what matters to you both in that moment.

As this is our first blog, we’ll be starting some new traditions, one of which is that you will be getting a quote from me at the end of each blog. Sometimes they will completely be about what we talked about, sometimes they’ll just be something to brighten your day, quite often they will be Star Wars quotes! Because fun fact about me I’m a Star Wars girl through and through!
